Hey All, Well I went to South Carolina to dig with Dan aka JUDU last Tuesday. It was a good time. We started at a circa 1850 house that was once apparently a stage depot. Probed around for about 90 minutes and came up with nuttin'. But there is promise here...

Then it was on to a couple of more walk abouts with little to speak of.
Then Lunch...AHHH! that SC pulled pork, home fries and beans really hit the spot...

We ended up at a dump that Dan has been working for about a year. It seems to be the Greenville City Dump TOC.
When we arrived we were greeted by some really serious diggers...

That's Dan in the safety vest near one of the huge piles of ash, slag and glass.

We were able to pull out a few good ones. Some 20's sodas including a couple of BIG BILL. Lot's of TOC meds; Watkins etc.
I was fortunate to get what was likely the best find of the day;
FUNSTEN ANIMAL BAIT...

Not a great photo...I'll try for a better one soon.

Here is the FUNSTEN's along with a nice little 1/2 (or less) pint slick amber that Dan pulled. He was very gracious in giving it to me cause he knew how much I liked it...Love the shape, color & feel of this small BIM.

The excavator could be a big help in turning up the goodies. Looks like a good time. Nice finds so far.

Yeah, the finds are nice but the best part is sharing the hobby, meeting new people & I love the traveling.
The excavators are a mixed blessing; they will uncover a lot of stuff in moments that you might spend years digging for; and then they'll smash them to bits.
We did OK but Dan tells me that the site has now been cleared and leveled. I understand that it is to become the playing fields for a new school.
Dan does say that the edges are still workable for now and he plans to try and recover as much history as he can in the time left.
Also, he knows where they have taken the dirt. He has and probably will continue to go at those piles as well.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed baseball fields are often built on or around dumps?
