I just got a drakes plantation bitters a few days ago, and can't figure out the base. I can't decide if it's IP without any residue, or a hinge mold. Whats everybodys guess.
I'm Drakes's deprived, so I'd really like to see some pictures of the whole Plantation, if you'd be so kind. I'd call that a "Post mould," I think. Jeff has seen and handled far more glass than I ever will, so perhaps he will say for sure.
Hey Jeff,
I'm a Drake's dummy. I've only had one in my hands, and it was smooth base. I've dug pieces / parts of 2 and the one with attached base was smooth. My dumb question for today is; are there pontlled examples of the Drake's?
I did some lookin around, to try and find some photographic representation of a Drake's pontil, but have not found one yet. First stop was the Jeff n' Holly Page, but I didn't find one there. Everywhere else i've visited, thus far has been the same story.
Could you help educate me a bit, please? Are the Arabesques the oldest models? There seem to be many moulds of the 4, 5, & 6 loggers. Were there multiple glasshouses producing them?
The two broken ones I found were both light to medium amber, and remarkably thin walled.
