I was going to say that " a pontil mark that looks like a C" sounds suspiciously like a key-mold seam

The c isn't facing the right way for a key mold and it's more of a cresent instead of a c. The base looks like this (-c-) the seam goes through the indented c but only lightly. Do I sound confuzling?
