I obtained this O Nikolsky and Goldman Brothers Hutchison bottle last year along with the Fishman & Co crown top.
The early brewers and bottles of Trenton, NJ were first and second generation German and Irish immigrants.
However, from 1880 through the early 1900s Italian and Jewish immigrants began to migrate to the area and quickly established themselves in local commerce.
Subsequent research and bottle finds revealed a community of Russian Jewish immigrants living in Trenton, NJ. at the turn of the century.
Samuel Goldman, born in Russia in 1869, operated a liquor business in downtown Trenton at the turn of the century. I haven't so far found biographical information on Nikolsky.
Jacob Fishman, born in Russia March, 1858, immigrated in 1890. His profession in 1900 was saloon keeper
Hyman Movsouvich was born in Russia March, 1858 and immigrated in 1883. He operated a liquor business at 33 Decatur Street Trenton, NJ.
The history behind old bottles can add a colorful and interesting dimension to collecting.

Trenton jug dug by a friend in Trenton last year. He proudly owns this rare relic of Russian Jewish history.

Wow, very cool history! I've been digging up all the history I can about my local bottlers, and it has not been in vain. Many bottlers here were immigrants too. I love the history connection bottles give us bottle collectors!

There are many angles to glass collecting, the excitement of discovery, appreciating the skilled craft of glass making or enjoying the aesthetics of hand made glass. It's difficult not to be impressed by the history behind the glass; the people, places and events they represent.

I notice the Onikolsky bottle has an embossed emblem. At first I thought it was a monogram using initials from the names. But looking at it closer I found it's an emblem but none I recognize. Has anyone seen this emblem before? It could be either Russian or Jewish? I'd like to know what it means.
