Holy Water bottle stopper?

Found this bottle stopper at the site of a long abandoned mining camp in Nevada. A friend suggested that it might be from a bottle of holy water. Any ideas what it might indeed be from?

I agree with diggerjeff about it being a purfume as that's a maltese cross not a christian cross [] .
