I always considered these vials for pills, more specifically tablets.

A lot of different homeopathic remedies came in those as well. I've seen them with labels in those big display cabinets.

They were probably used by a number of medicine companies. I have a labeled example with contents. It's a Munyon's Homeopathic Remedies, and it's full of round white pills. Another labeled one I have is for Carter's Little Liver Pills.
