Found this old house in the woods. or what's left of it. Only a rock basement & rock fireplace left behind. Does this look like 1800's age? Could there be a good old privy nearby? LEON.

Heres the Fireplace. Looks old. Made of Michigan rock. Could it be 1880's or older? LEON.

Looks like steel liner in firebox, with steel lintel, and adjacent air vents.Looks like 20th century to me....maybe 1930s-1950s? Does not seem to be any large old trees in photos either.Lime mortar or portland cement mortar? Foundations look in fairly decent condition.Best bet is to research the site on old maps to see when it first appears.Good luck.

It looks a lot like the boy and girl scout cabins that were built in the 20s and 30s around here. The stone fireplace and lack of a cellar are good indicators of that, at least here in Ohio. Most of the early houses here in Ohio had interior brick chimneys and almost always a cellar.

That is a very good idea, if not for bottle digging it will be a great site for metal detecting.

Ahhh, that takes me back. One of my better moments involved an old camp like that here in Mass. I'll just call it an unsanctioned post season overnight high school camping trip. In the dark hours I noted where the moon was and where it was going and when I hiked the darkness later I made the appropriate (almost) adjustments to get back.Missed it by that much (Maxwell Smart) but only off by about 100 feet after 3 hours of darkness hiking.Such fun! And yes, from the 20's or so. Very similar cabins, only a few remain today.

Looking at a 1896 map I still see this house on it. No Boy Scout cabin. LEON.
