I have never been afraid to buy damaged bottles provided they are rare,or unique in some way. This particular flask has no damage other then the V shaped piece of glass missing from the neck. The flask is listed as very rare by McKearin and is in a lighter color then the other known specimens they accounted for.The reason this flask is the GI-81-A and not the plain GI-81 is the corrugated ribbing is different in one area along the very bottom of the flask.

The GI-81-A has only 2 ribs which traverse the flask horizontally at the very bottom ,where the GI-81 has 3.The flask shows General Lafayette in a side bust pose on one side of the bottle and also at the bottom has the Initials S & C.On the other side of the flask is a bust of DeWitt Clinton New York's most famous Governor ,and also has the initials C T Coventry Connecticut. The color is a very pale olive yellow amber

This bottle will be mailed out too Chris Rowell (baltbottles) for repair.I have seen his work and he does a great job on what ever he has tackled.I totally trust his ability to restore this flask. Some of you may advise me to leave it alone but I am a stickler for perfection and if done properly it will only add to the value and appearance of the bottle.I am now officially hooked on the New England flasks also as the colors on these flasks are second to none.

5.A close up of the damaged area shows at the bottom of the V shaped area a bubble which runs vertically up through the neck. Chris will probably be able to match this area more easily because of this feature.

6 Upon closer inspection which could not be seen with the naked eye are hundreds of chalky yellow pot stones very minute in nature with a couple larger ones mixed in.

7 On this picture of the base you can see the diffrence between the plain old air bubbles and the potstone which are a brighter white-yellow.

8 The corrugated ribbing really sets the flask off. I think it had a more practical reason for having the ribbing other
then beauty and this it is much easier to hold with the ribbing just like tires with good tread in the rain.
