I have never been afraid to buy damaged bottles provided they are rare,or unique in some way. This particular flask has no damage other then the V shaped piece of glass missing from the neck. The flask is listed as very rare by McKearin and is in a lighter color then the other known specimens they accounted for.The reason this flask is the GI-81-A and not the plain GI-81 is the corrugated ribbing is different in one area along the very bottom of the flask.
The GI-81-A has only 2 ribs which traverse the flask horizontally at the very bottom ,where the GI-81 has 3.The flask shows General Lafayette in a side bust pose on one side of the bottle and also at the bottom has the Initials S & C.On the other side of the flask is a bust of DeWitt Clinton New York's most famous Governor ,and also has the initials C T Coventry Connecticut. The color is a very pale olive yellow amber
This bottle will be mailed out too Chris Rowell (baltbottles) for repair.I have seen his work and he does a great job on what ever he has tackled.I totally trust his ability to restore this flask. Some of you may advise me to leave it alone but I am a stickler for perfection and if done properly it will only add to the value and appearance of the bottle.I am now officially hooked on the New England flasks also as the colors on these flasks are second to none.
