I bought this piece of stoneware earlier this week. I just had to have it. The only thing, though, is I don't know exactly what it is. It looks like it's a gallon size, and has a pitcher-type handle on one side and a crock-like handle on the other side. It also looks like it used to have a stoneware lid.
Besides its use, does anyone have opinions on its age, place of origin, or value?

It is what my grand dad called a "johnny pot" There is a proper name for it but it slips my mind at the moment. It was used in the winter down in the south so you wouldn't have to go to the outhouse in the middle of a cold winter night.

BEAUTIFUL !
Cobalt decorated stoneware chamber pots are rare, not to mention the bird decoration which adds to the value. Unique applied strap handle and good shape,
I could see this going for $350-$500 on Ebay.

I love it !
