This weekend I was rooting through some boxes of bottles and shards that I had not been into for years, and came upon some privy dug shards that I was hoping someone here could help identify. These first shards were dug from a Baltimore, Maryland pontil era privy. These were from a large cylindrical bottle (probably 9-10 inches tall?), with a huge tapered lip, and in a typical Baltimore sapphire blue color. It was embossed vertically, but all that remains to be seen now is ".....NOLIA ( with an upside down "N") / ...... SULPHUR"
This looks to me like it might have been from a Virginia area spring or mineral water bottle, but I am unfamiliar with exactly what bottle it is?
Anybody familiar with this one, or know of a photo of a complete example?
Thanks

Forget the Hagen's Magnolia, that appears to only come in Milkglass....

Chris,

Here is an advertisement from the Baltimore sun in 1853, this is probably the spring your bottle is from.

Hey Chris,
I think you found the eleusive spring!
Just visible in front of the word "sulphur" is the base or leg of a letter that is probably the "T" in "SALT".
So if this bottle held spring water from Suffolk, VA, do any of you Norfolk/Suffolk, Virginia collectors know if this bottle is currently listed anywhere, or if any intact examples are known?
thank you, Chris
