Did you take a picture of the biggest wine barrel in the world that has been filled? (Stated that way because Bad Duerkheim has the biggest wine barrel in the world, but has never been filled.)
If you have a picture of that and maybe a picture of the bridge in Heidelberg, could you take another 1/2 hour or so & upload them when you have time?[]

I was there in 1987.. I don't think the exhibit was there at that time.. I might have remembered! I do remember all the red stone lying around.. I am also very generous with my services, and would be happy to take all that stuff off their hands to make room for more.. I'll even pay to rent the truck![]

They have done a lot of restoration on the castle and are still working on it. I would be happy to send you pictures.

Kate, I put a question mark on it because I think they said 2nd largest. This one was only partially filled and only for a short time. It seems that the locals vineyards where required to bring a percentage of their wine to the castle in tribute. It must have been some really bad wine since they mixed it all together, reds and whites, good and bad.

Looks like you have a great opportunity to do some site-seeing in Germany. Take advantage of it. Being stationed with the Blackhorse in the Fulda Gap up through the mid-1970s, we spent 11 months out of the year in the field patroling the border. 1949 c-rats and sleeping in the mud. I did go to a whorehouse once in Frankfurt; buddy paid the $20 bucks.

This is a smaller barrel they had there. Smaller but still about 12 feet tall.

Those were the days when there were almost 400,000 troops here. Most of the troops and bases are gone now. Going to a few larger bases and training areas. All those countries we were hostile are now tourist draws.

That is a great Castle. I lived in Flein (Landkreis Heilbronn) for 17 years. Been married to a wonderful German Lady for 21 years now. We lived only 45 mins from the castle so we were there 3 or 4 times. I hated the cold (even though Im from Indiana), and I missed the good ol USA, so we packed up and came back to live in the sunshine and warm (Florida) in 2002. Anyway great pics and thanks. Here are some pics we took while we were there.
