Hello wv hillbilly. I went to your glass trader sight and got your email address. I am always looking for bottles with the Half Leaf Mold Repair mark on them. This is covered in my homepage - but I have no idea if you have been there. RED Matthews

I dont think I have any with those marks right now. Ill keep my eyes open. Something like that would be something I look over after determining that it was made from the mold and not damage. Ive always just thought of it as characteristic.

Hello again wvhillbilly; There are two things that can look like this mark. One is a pinch of glass that was caught in the mold neck and released by the bottle maker. It then sometimes fell off the mold seam and dropped into the bottom area of a bottle. As I tried to point out in my homepage blog, the mechanics of mold repair of damage in the cavity of a mold was done by puddling in mold iron sticks of cast iron to fill the milled out zone. This repair metal had reduced graphite particles in the weld - that were washed out by the subsequent hot glass contact and gave this half leaf form the appearance of a cloth texture on the welded alloy surface. There has been a lot of flack about this within this Forum of collectors, but I just smile and let them go with their opinions. TS but the way it is. RED Matthews
