Some of the embossing suggests alcohol "Federal Law Prohibits"...
Those are the Bardstown distillery versions. They definitely were made as a product bottle. Most of the others were purely decorative.

I'm familiar with the bardstown bottles. I wasn't clear what I was saying but I was referring to the banjos. some are embossed with "Federal Law..." and another is embossed "Medley Distilling Company, Owensboro, Kentucky 4/5 Quart." These no doubt held liquor.

A few years ago, I did a display at the Saratoga NY. Bottles Show of my Violin Bottles. I know some of you have seen this pic. but I thought I would post it so people could see the spectrum of colors these come in. We collect mainly the Clevenger, and Dell Varieties With some of the French Made ones as well. The top center is one of our best with a deep red neck, and lip fading to orange in the body with almost clear shoulders. The Amber with the short neck is a bit of a rarity. Its got a tooled lip like the others, but falls 1.5" short of the regular height. I also have a Vaseline Glass example that is real hard to come by. None of these are Pairpoint. I do have about a dozen of those as well now. Hey Eric, You can tell if your Violin is a Pairpoint because they etched a P inside a diamond on the base of every one they made. About 10 yrs. ago, I had the chance to add a pure, smoky grey to the collection, but I had just bought a bunch, and had to pass. Been looking for another since then. I would call it one of the toughest to find, right up there with Milk Glass.

Here's a close -up of the Amberina. Generally these are the hardest to find, and command the highest prices.

Here are some of my Pairpoint examples. I have 4 or 5 others that we have added to the collection since this picture.

Always been kind of fond of this weird one too. Note the olive green swirl in it. Cool Huh?

Hey Mark I have one thing to say to you... WOW.
And one thing to ask.
Do you know if Pairpoint signed all their stuff? Not just the violins but everything. I had one town commemorative from 1981 the the town historical society thought it was Pairpoint but they weren't sure. It looked more like the Wheaton presidential series in form. It wasn't art glassy like that amazing stuff at all.

Hi Eric, I dont know if Pairpoint etched their logo on their other wares. I don't think they ever did any of the Pesidential bottles. I agree, with you that it was likely Wheaton.

Beautiful stuff! Do you have your hands in banjos as well, or do you know anyone who collects them? I have never seen or heard of a collection.

I have had a few of the Banjo Bottles through the years. Never got into them to serious. They come in large, and smaller versions as well. Most were made at the same locations. I have not seen the color variations in them though. Alot of Violin Collectors also collect the Banjo Bottles as well. My collection is small compared to some. Glad you enjoyed seeing them.
