I've already a message here, discussing cleaning pot lids. I thought I'd attach some examples. Mostly before's and afters (in most cases, the afters still require a lot more work!). And also just a couple of the rarer lids I've found.
this is the lid after I subjected it to some nasty chemicals. To be honest, the previous photo was flattering, the lid looked far worse in person, reading any letter was hard, and the vertical ones were pure guess work. I'd never found a cold cream lid previous to this one and it took perhaps 20 minutes to work out what it read, and if my wife hadn't told me what cold cream was (and that there was/is such a thing!) I wouldn't have been certain what it said.
This lid is now very readable, as the 2nd photo shows. It's just not the correct colour! I'm now trying various measures to get it looking near-mint.
A pot base I found a long time ago now. To the best of my knowledge there are onlt three of these known. I found each one on the same trip. This is pre-cleaning.
After a clean. Still needing further work, I'll post a new message when I manage to work out the magic cleaning method (or at least, the one that works for me!).
And one that doesn't require much cleaning (phew!). This one is 'as dug' and will probably remain so. I think "AJ Watt, Sons & Co" were only around for a fairly short time, evidently they stopped in 1902 when AJ died. I think there are a few examples of this Sydney pot base around, but not many.
