I don't have my Redbook with me, but I'm fairly certain that is "ARS". I don't remember what it stands for. Nice jar!

MNJARS is correct , 'ARS' stand for Adam R. Samuels. There are 2 closures, one is a glass stopper marked A. Kline Patd Oct 27 1863. Or a metal stopple with wing nut : J.D. Willoughby Patd Jan 4 1859 GREAT JAR AND GREAT FIND !!

Certainly worth the price of having it cleaned. You should be able to pick up a Kline stopper pretty easily, but a Willoughby stopple will probably set you back more than the $200 value it adds. -Tammy

With a Klines stopper and in clean condition, the last one to sell on NAG went for $70. I'm not sure what value to assign yours.
