I just picked this thing up in a box lot at an auction, and my first thought was that it was a lamp, but the lip is a little more flared out than the whale oil lamps I`ve seen with this kind of lip. Then I`m thinking possibly a cologne bottle, but the inside of the lip isn`t ground for any kind of stopper. So I`m turning you the knowledgable people here, hoping that someone might have a clue as to what this really was. I think it is from the early to mid 1800`s. It is free blown, the foot is attatched with a wafer with vertical ribs on it, there`s a nice broken solid bar pontil mark, and it is about 6" tall. It`s still an interesting piece no matter what it is.

I'd say it's some sort of apothecary bottle.

Evening Bill & Brian,

I think you're right, Brian. Seems like it might be the bigger part of a Show Globe.

Thanks guys! That certainly looks like what I have. It`s strange that the inside of the neck isn`t ground for the stopper, but maybe it didn`t have to seal tight for whatever was supposed to be in it.

My first impression was also apothecary show glass. Dont know for sure.
Seems odd the mouth isnt ground though.
