What is this?

I found these 2 holes covered with a lid and cant figure out what they are. There might be a third hole right next to them but I haven't checked yet. these holes are about 35 feet from the back of my house, the darker one is only about 3 or so feet deep and the other one I cant tell.
the problem is these holes are right in the middle of a huge patch of poison ivy.

You just about described my septic system to a T..!!

Definitely some outdated septic distribution box before 1950. I can just imagine the doctor's face when he asks you how you got all that poison ivy on yourself.

Looks like a french drain system for septic, as previously described by VA.

would I be wasting my time to look in these holes?

first and foremost your never wasting time when looking for bottles anywhere!
second you'll never know what's in anything till you dig it. We give a honest effort in every hole we dig. We never fill a hole in that is producing bottles whether there real old(da) or newer. Our motto "WE DIG'EM ALL" to the bottom. Unless safety is an issue.
