Sitting here waiting for a potential client. Just picked up the Smedley & Brandt from DiggerRy. It is believed there that there is a close tie of both Brandts, although no one has proven it yet. Possibly the same person?

Anyone with more info, jump in.

Mike?

Ryan? Got more pics of the Columbia ones?

Will?

Interesting, it didnt post my other wright up.

Anyway my theory is Brandt started in Columbia with his partner Smedley in the late 1840's. I have an a very early aqua mineral water that dates late 1840's to early 1850s. I will post a picture of this the next time I go over to my parents. Brandt is advertising his mineral water biz during this time in local advertisements.

Im guessing he did pretty well in columbia with his sales and saw that there was a demand in Carlisle. There he opened his own bottling works in Carlisle during the 1850's while still remaining a partner with Smedley in Columbia.

It is my understanding that there are only 1850's pontiled Carlisle Brandt bottles; maybe business wasn't as fruitful in Carlisle as he expected and decided to shut down shop and ocus primarily in Columbia.

1860's Columbia now, there are Geo W Brandt Smooth base sodas with out Smedley's name; so either he bought out Smedley or went off on his own. After that Brandt does not exist on another other style of glass bottles.

Now these are just my thoughts no real proof to it but it should be pretty certain that this is the same man in two different towns at the same time.

How many G W Brandts were around during the 1850's? And how many of them could have had a bottling business?

Here are town pictures of the 1860's smooth base Brandts I just sold on Ebay
