I took my three older boys. I had busted out the wood and then a layer of roof slate before they were dropped off. I had wanted to get as much hard digging done as early as possible as the neighbors garage shaded this pit until about 9:30. When the boys got there, they jumped right in and took turns. Levi is pulling buckets. Josh is in the pit. For those of you who don't know - Josh is the bottle collector among my kids. The other ones just like to go for the fun of it.

Seth is in the red shirt. The homeowner's one kid is in the pit - Jessie. He goes to school with my kids, but does not really know them. I had told the homeowner that some of my kids would be coming and asked if her kids would be around. She said they would, but that she doubted they would come out. And added that they are shy. Well, Jessie came out and started asking questions and seemed quite interested in the history of things. I asked if he wanted to dig. He said he would and I told him to go change into long pants and he got into the hole. There was a good layer of ash and about a 6" clay cap. I told the kids to get that out and I went to get us lunch. When I got back, Jessie had gotten to the use layer and had found a couple bottles. Nothing spectacular, but he did get a nice Polar Star with ground mineralization that looks great in the sun.

I friend and neighbor to this house stopped by. He is more interested in the local indian artifacts and settlements, but had no problem jumping in and doing his first privy dig. He finished up the pit with a Chamberlain's Remedy, a local med., and a couple slicks. There were plenty of us there to fill the hole and sweep the sidewalk before the rain. Just as we were loading the tools, it let down enough to wet everything. About an hour later it was a downpour. I didn't get to do much digging in this pit with four kids who were excited about it. I did dig a local med and a couple other bottles on my turns. Nothing spectacular. But a good time was had by all. The homeowner was happy and surprised by the bottles we found. Her son was introduced to the hobby and seemed to really enjoy it. I will be giving him a couple bottles including that Polar Star. The neighbors got to see how we go about it and I may have opened some doors there. Don was intrigued by a couple extremely seedy turds and took them home to see if they might germinate. My kids and I got to spend the day together and both Josh and I got some bottles for our collections. That's what it's all about. Pics of the finds to follow.
