I've got a couple of round bottom crowns and had the understanding it was to keep the cork moist in the cap because you had to lay them down. The crown is an inch across so I think it was capped. Thanks Again... Don

cows: You're probably right because it refers to the name being on the cap, which likely means the metal part. However, I'm still a little confused because the bottles I have found pictures of appear to be soda bottles, and yet most of the references give the impression the brand was only available in drug stores. It just strikes me odd they would put a medicinal product in a soda-type bottle. Even this circa 1900 pocket mirror has the Rx symbol on it ...

P.S. I came across a reference to an amber variation of the bottle but have not found a picture of one, yet.

Long story short / The point of my query ... If the Crown closure bottle was Zoolak's only bottle, and used since 1898, that would make some of them extremely early Crown's. The earliest Crown bottle I am aware of is a 1894. Hires Root Beer first started using Crowns in 1897.

I had a thread here years ago with a bunch of stuff, I cant find it now. I do still have this image but the size limit won't show much. I'll email you a copy if you want it. I started to transcribe it to text but didn't get far.
