Here's everything I know about the Matzoon trademark and bottle thus far ...

1. Trademark filed August 7, 1885
2. Trademark No. 12,566
3. Green bottle
4. Round bottle
5. One pint bottle = 16 ounces
6. Label depicts, Mount Ararat, Ark, Dove
7. Sold for $2.50 per dozen = Appx. 21-Cents each

I'm not certain if a fermented milk product would have been put in a soda-type bottle or a medicinal-type bottle, but because Matzoon was most often advertised in medical periodicals, I'm guessing the bottle was of the medicinal type as well.

So what does your average 1885 round bottle look like? Does it look like the one pictured below or possibly one of several other varieties used at the time? Or was it possibly a Hutchinson type or a blob-type? Did they make a 1 pint/16 ounce Hutchinson?

19 centimeters = Appx. 7 1/2 inches

I guess that Nerve Foods were as well so I'd lean toward blobs as a multi purpose. I doubt the Saratoga's though.

As we know, blob top and other types of mid 1880s bottles came in all sizes and shapes, but for some reason I envision a Matzoon bottle to look something like the one pictured below, which is plain and rather generic looking without any embossing. And speaking of embossing, one of the reasons we can't find an intact Matzoon bottle is possibly because they had paper labels only and no embossing. If they had been embossed with the name "Matzoon," I'm confident one would have turned up by now and not be almost impossible to find.

P.S. I also envision Dr. Dadirrian competing with brands like "Moxie Nerve Tonic" that was popular during the same time period, and possibly with Matzoon using a similar bottle. The bottle I just posted was inspired to me by Moxie. Below is a real Moxie blob-top bottle plus a link covering the company's history ... http://www.drinkmoxie.com/history.php

I am also searching for one of Dr. Dadirrian's "Vin Shartone Tonic Wine" bottles that was produced around the turn of the century. According to what I have read (see below) the bottle was embossed and should not be all that hard to find. It is described as being a "Lady-Leg" style.

Vin Shartone ~ Described as a "Lady's-Leg" shaped bottle

Scroll to "Vin Shartone" where it refers to the bottle's embossing, color, and shape as ...

VIN SHARTONE (arched up) / DR. DADIRRIAN’S / TONIC WINE (arched down) / NEW YORK, Deep aqua, round with bulged neck, approx. 8-9”?? http://www.historicbottles.com/toniclist.htm

Here's a picture of a basic, aqua, lady-leg-style bottle ( Although I do not know if Dr. Dadirrian's bottle was a Blob or a Crown )

Maybe it was more like a combination of the Saratoga and Vin Mariani? Broader base but longer neck with some bulge also. A cognac style.
