Attached is a picture of an old bottle that I would guess is from the 1700-1800's with lead covering...looks french but have no idea on its age, type or value...would love to know...Best...Brad

Looks to me like a French "second empire" piece, 1870's - 1880's prob cognac ..it's not pewter?

I THINK CYBER IS RIGHT ON AND YES IT DOES LOOK LIKE PEWTER. SHOW A PICTURE OF THE BOTTOM. OR IS IT METAL ON BOTTOM TOO?

They seem to do that a lot here in Germany, adding pewter to bottles. I do not know the purpose, maybe presentation or as a decorative bottle for the table. With the "fleur-de-leis" it probably is French rather than German.

Thanks guys.....for helping to solve the mystery....Yes it is pewter....and does have a pewter base on whole bottom. Father bought it at some auction in NYC about 70 years ago...have no idea as to its worth...but keep it for sentimental value anyway....and would agree it looks like some kind of decorative decantor for cognac etc...
