I meant to post this early last week, but was too busy to do so...This is just the briefest of posts about last weekend, Penn Digger and I took off looking for a spot with some promise...We have at least two good possibles,..one is 2 hours distant and the other is an old privy/well/cistern that is filled in to seven feet right now, but the homeowner found blobtops in it before gradually filling it in. Until the water table lowers we can't get in there to dig. We drove to a neighboring town to probe some of Penn's mothers rental propertys for a privy...no luck but the tenant's dog had been digging up glass in an old brick planter built onto the carriage house..that glass was too recent for us...We then drove to an old cellar hole I had explored a few years ago....We found broken aqua inks, mason lids and aqua blob necks in the creek near the house but couldn't find their origin. We did find a few oddities, but my camera had lost it's battery charge by then. We found a milk glass goblet that was complete. A ceramic elephant (not so complete)[:D]..I also found a rose decorated saucer, A half of a 24' mill stone, and a few other oddities. Here are a few random pics...(Also the cellar was so well constructed that you could literally rebuild upon it... )
Here's a rare Penn Digger sighting.[;)]

We had explored this place for about 2 hours,...and it was a neat old property with a springhouse,...complete with stone steps leading down to it,...and perhaps some future promise...Sorry i wasn't able to get more pics....

Although we hadn't planned to go out scouting last Sunday,...It was a really mild and nice spring day, so we traveled to Penn Diggers in laws 1862 built farm to look for the farm dump..We hiked through the muddy pasture, (which we shared w/ his aunts beautiful Tennesee horses) and perhaps a quarter mile total, to the back of the property and woods...We got to stretch our legs and enjoy the mild weather, but found only a few shards in random places but no dump....We did a bit of backroad driving through Amish country and happened upon a good sized antique shop at a four corners...It was mostly later junk, bottle wise, but Penn Digger beat me to the lone bottle display...Here's what he decided to purchase...

Here's a close up of the small green embossed (What I thought was a druggist) Geez,..."RICIN!"[:'(] and I had decided to scrub it out a little bit for the pic, before I read the embossing... [;)] I better toss that bottle brush...nice looking little bottle.

I would imagine this is (or should be) considered a poison?

Sorry for the abbrieviated and late post,...As far as I know,...Penn Digger and I are going to the Rochester Bottle show tomorrow, and Fred may dig under the bakery once more,....Hopefully we'll have some interesting stuff to post between the three of us!

Speaking of the bakery/drugstore,...I also wanted to post this pic of the stopper Digswithstick sent me (Thank you Rick,...It came in Fridays mail!) It absolutely is a fit for the mini "show jar"

He was also kind enough to include some marbles from a cool spot we dug at with him a few years ago,...and a neat litle "Harllem Genuine Till(y)" vial....(They lost the "y" somewhere...[:D] Thanks Rick...and thanks for checking this out everyone...

ORIGINAL: downeastdigger

HI Joe, how old do you think that foundation is?

Bram,....it was fairly old,...I would guess from the bottle shards at least 1870's-80's....but it showed signs of occupation up into the last 40 years,...we did find a couple of later small dumps, along with random barrel hoops, barbed wire and old farm stuff.
