My cousin told me about a dump he had found while looking for minnows in a local creek. Keep in mind my cousin is eight years old. He even brought me back a bottle had picked up. Well the bottle he had brought me was probably 1950's maybe even 60's. I never checked the dump out because I figured it was newer stuff. Well I had some free time on my hands today so I decided to see if it was anything interesting. When I got there I was surprised to see local milks and sodas just laying on top of the ground! I couldn't believe it. I always keep a shovel and gloves in my pickup truck so I ran back and grabbed it. I only dug for about 20 or 30 minutes and got a jumbo peanut butter jar, a local quart milk, and an extremely hard to come by local abm soda. The last thing I found before I quit for the night was this tube looking thing. It reads Dr S.H. Thompson's Steral Tube. Anyone know what this was??

Sounds like a great discovery. Kids will always pick up a bottle made last year or one worth $10,000. LoL. Kind of looks like a hypodermic needle. Can't see the other end in your pic is it open?

Hey Mike, I've got the others soaking right now this was the only one I cleaned up. I will be sure to post some pictures of them tomorrow along with my other finds as I'm headed back to the dump in the morning. Now that I mentioned bringing back other bottles I probably won't find any. lol I could see a syringe being in there though!

Cap, I was pretty tickled that he had thought of me while looking for minnows. lol It made my day. I didn't have the heart to tell the kid the bottle he brought me should have been left in the creek. The end of the bottle isn't open though. My pictures aren't that good I apologize. The tube measures I'd say T8 inches and maybe half an inch thick. The funny thing I forgot to mention is the tube isn't completely round. The back is actually flat as if it were meant to lay on it's back.

If I remember my camera I'll get some pictures of the dig spot. It appears people dumped their trash into the creek some time ago. Actually, people still do as I was seeing bed frames, lifting weights, all kinds of new junk. I'm hoping I don't get booted out of my spot though. It is right behind an apartment building but the creek is owned by the city so technically I don't think I'm on anyone's property besides the city's?

Hello Bryan,

I googlized a bit on your "Steral" Tube and found two foreign e-bay listings describing it as a toothbrush sterilizer or sanitizer. Both listings are now gone. Does it have a ground top? Good luck on your return visit to that spot.

Thanks surface! I just looked at that and it appears that's what it is. I saw 3 or 4 different listings advertising it as a toothbrush sterilizer.

Here are some pictures of what I have found so far in the new dump. The license plate is pretty rough shape but still makes a nice conversation piece. Any way I can clean this up any? The date is 1910. I also dug my first poison! Triloids. I know they're pretty common but still quite neat. It was the only one I cleaned up out of the bunch yet. I thought the little jar was kind of neat. It is embossed free sample. Anyone know what it contained? Thanks.

I forgot to mention the Nehi is from Columbus, Georgia. Is this a common one?
