Went on my first dig yesterday with Chris, Alan, and Doug and had a great time. They had no objection to my posting a few pics on the forum so here they are......This first one is a picture of the breezeway that we walked through to get to the back patio area, where the privy was buried in concrete.

Chris in the hole. It was a square wood liner and went down about 7 feet. The layer where everything was found was pure muck - felt like glue and was heavy as wet cement. Yes, I did go down in the hole and feel around in the muck!!! As a "newbie" I was pretty thrilled by everything we found.

I pulled this pickle out, and it would have been a really good one if fully intact.....

Our best find was actually a Baltimore bottle that Chris didn't already have! It was a base embossed whiskey and I believe that the embossing was T. Hart and Sons, Baltimore. It was near mint! I brought home a Baltimore soda (pontiled but unembossed), a pontiled Mrs Winslow's, and a couple of pontiled utilities.

We found a lot of pottery shards for these chamber pots - I am going to try to piece a few together.

I forgot to take a picture of this cleaned off, but it is a huge platter, and we have almost all of it. It is really beautiful. If I can get it pieced together, Chris will glue it and I think it will display really well.

Finally, in case anyone is wondering - YES - I am so sore today I can hardly move!!! My hands hurt, my shoulders hurt, my arms hurt, and my lower back hurts!!!! But I would do it again tomorrow - too bad I can't quit the day job yet!!

And just how do you get your fingernails clean??? I wore gloves while digging, and I have scrubbed and scrubbed, but I still went to work with filthy hands today!

Great pictures!

As for the fingernails....I use lemon juice to scrub brush the nails and it works pretty well.....soak prior to scrubbrushing if necessary.

Regards,
