Been at this broken in half house in the woods near the inlaws' farm. It's literally cut in half (well, falling down now). Logging truck hit it on the way through the narrow dirt path/road. I went there to metal detect. Guy who lives near there said a couple of guys started MD'ing there and found an engine and hauled it out with his help and they left. Figured they hadn't hit it all, since the property is 3-5acres.

I get there the first day and I start finding car parts everywhere. Single barrel carbs, double barrel carbs, narrow wheels with wooden spokes and 100's more. Model A frames stacked 4-6 high, a pit with nothing but the wood spoked tires/rims and misc car parts lying all over the place. My recent find is what looks similar to a '40s Buick transmission, this one is a bit more flat on the bottom..

ok..so tons of auto parts for the taking.

The house has been abandoned since 1926 when the "old man" died. he'd lived there most of his life. I found a few ravines that held '30s-'40s bottles on top from people who've hunted there. The property sits adjacent to a very thick stand of pines. Huge deer come out of there so it used to be hunted quite heavily.

One thing I did find interesting. A shallow pit/depression with more '30s-'40s items. Got to the bottom and the ground felt pretty soft. Peeled away the leaves and soil and 2' down hit a wooden liner. It's approx. 4'x8'. Had no digging tools, so dug by hand just to see what was down there. Another 2' down I hit what at first I thought was just swampy dirt. Actually was moist clay. No idea how far down the clay goes (I'm heading back up there wed 20th afternoon).

I've spent many hours metal detecting on the farm and property near it and have never dug through clay.

Would you guys/gals keep digging this spot? Will be either MD'ing the place while I pickup auto parts along the way, or digging that pit and picking up auto parts as I exit.

No pics of the spot as of now (pics of the house and some of the parts I've found though), but will get some this weekend. thanks for any input!

I'd look for his dump, he probably threw the trash somewhere besides the poop hole, but its worth checking out and seeing if there is something in there...

hey Minndigger...no idea yet...alot of this stuff is good as cores or as oem parts (the light rings and model A style headlights that are still shiny and have unbroken glass in them).

Didn't get a chance to go dig this weekend. Got up there wed night, hunted thurs after eating and watching football...was 50degrees that day. Woke up the next day to 6" of snow and 20mph freezing winds. Would have gone digging if not for the wind.

While hunting we drove to a house a mile or so into the woods that we have permission to hunt/be at. House is from the mid 1800's. The house sits on the edge of a small cliff above lake superior. Nothing but windows and doors from the house in the small barn. Attached to the barn was the one holer privy. the seat area had collapsed. Going back there this winter to dig that out too...

here's a pic of what we woke up to...

going to be a few weeks before I can get back up there and dig..

Get back in that hole and get under the clay! Also, the 30s-40s bottles spots, see if they get older as you dig unless they are just shallow scattered debris type dumps.
