the porter/cylinder next to your's...is it embossed at all? i've about 6 that have numerals on them...which i've been told came in a set of 8...each having a differant concoction in them..sort of like the british "broad arrow" bottles..each were numbered or lettered for differant remedies...ie 22+5+e/f would cure some ailmaent...

No, I have a few and none of them are embossed. One looks to possibly have some very faint base embossing outside of the pontil, but I cant be sure, it is to difficult to tell if it is just a result of the pontil in the glass or intentional... I have not ever seen any embossed. Are the embossed on the body or on the base? Are they dip molds or piece molds? A member of this forum posted a small cylinder with a number four on the shoulder a while back, I'll see if I can find it...

i've got iii , iv , v , viii in the porters. all are embossed just below the shoulder.they're circa 1810-1820 porters.

I looked at it again, the mark is not intentional.... I do believe that my paneled bottle must be an incarnation of the English bottle made in New England though... The glass is just too New Englandly!

ouch! That hurts.... the piece alone is highly collectible though!

Are you talking about the arrows? I thought it could be an early American bottle, but I was just kinda making an argument too...
