About 3 weeks ago, I went on family vacation in the Owens Valley and environs. We made a stop at the railroad museum in Laws, California. It was actually my 4th visit to this museum - I first visited in 2002. However, this was the first time that I had seen their "bottle house" exhibit.

Here are a few of my pictures.

The picture doesn't really do it justice - but the three bottles in the center of the frame were BLOOD RED. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen. I'd sure like to have a bottle like that:

Yeah.......they collected A LOT! The following pictures are of the section of the house that made up the part of their collection that was donated to the museum:

I thought that this display was pure brilliance:

Of additional interest.......

This hand-painted map was about 10 feet tall:

Hello Everyone,

Just to let you know there are more than Ruby Red Schlitz beer to collect, although they're the most common. Anchor Hocking also produced the Ruby Reds in a whiskey, wine, owl bank bottle, baby food bottles, prune juice, aspirin, a Borden's milk bottle, at least 16 different beer bottles and a few others that I'm forgetting. These were shown at several bottle shows in the mid 1970's.

Enjoy,

Dean

I think that I have this picture in color, but couldn't find it.

Hello Everyone,

Here are the results of the Ruby Red's first showing in 1976 at the Arkansas Insulator & Bottle Show. The engraving states "Arkansas Insulator & Bottle Show People's Choice". This show was at Fayettteville, Arkansas.

Enjoy,

Dean

Hello,

I didn't aim to hi-jack this thread but most people aren't aware of all the different Ruby Reds. A collection like the above would be next to impossible to assemble now. I sold it in 1982 and have no idea where it's at now. Some of those bottles are in the $5,000 range now and it probably has been broken apart.

Thanks,

Dean

Cool pictures,...Thanks for the tour!

You are welcome!

If I had more time I could upload a few more pictures of the museum itself....

There's often some Available @ electronic auction, for random unexplainable prices.

Holy crap, I found this same exact bottle in the desert earlier this year in perfect condition, only it was brown. I just sold it on Sunday.

Man, I'd sure like to find a red one! Those things are just plain awesome!

Hello CaliKid,

You are the only one to make a comment about the red bottles and if you will send me your email address I'll send you one of the red quarts that I have as a gift.

Enjoy,
Dean
