Hi Guys, I found this bottle in the Potomac River just south of Wash. D. C., had it awhile, but still know nothing about it. I'm assuming that it was made after 1900 (no pontal scar): looks like a small 1 on the bottom (I've colored it in red) Any ideas what type of bottle this is? Thanks, Don M.
Think this is a early capers bottle. I have one the same size, color etc except embossed W & R on the front side. Listed as rare in Zumwalt's Ketchup,Pickles and Sauces book.
On the outside of the base there's only a raised 1 on the glass, but now that you mention it.. seems that there is a jumble of letters on the inside. Although the inside is fairly clean (no paper), I'm thinking some sort of stains from old print of some type (w/ different fonts).Label or newsprint type residue I guess ~
I think you nailed it Cliff. Went on E-bay, checked for caper bottle and found two with similer characteristics. Now wish I knew why they made bottles with such small bases -guarenteed ta git knocked over! Thanks, Don M.
