I am posting this as a way of testing my ever increasing bottle knowledge. In the collection I inherited a while back I found this bottle. It stands about 5 3/8 tall. The color is a mix of olive green and amber in swirls, and it has a lot of little tiny rocks included in the glass. I know there is a term for these, but it escapes me just now. The bottom has what looks like it might be a pontil mark, but when you look close it looks more like a stone is embedded in the base of the bottle. I am thinking this is some kind of fake, or repo, or something along those lines. But since what I know about bottles could be held in a tea cup, what say the experts????? Am I right and it is a repo, or fake or such, or is it a rare one? Thanks for indulging my newness!!!! - Owen

Something looks off about it, especially the lip IMO

Gee, that is a freaky one! Lots of character in that glass.. the 'rocks' in the glass are called potstones.. I think this is a very early machine-made bottle (1905-10) .. looks like the mold seam goes to the top of the lip.. it might have been made outside the USA..

Some added info...

First... Yes the mold seam goes up the side and through the lip. That is what has me thinking it was maybe cast from an older bottle that had a applied lip, as the crudeness of the lip look old, but the seams make me think newer. But again like I said, what I know could fill a tea cup.

Second... The more I look at the pontil/rock in the bottom... The more it looks like a chunk of glass with the exterior shape looking like a bit of gravel that is embedded into the bottom of the bottle. Like an extra bit of glass that did not melt and fuse into the rest of the bottle was encased into the bottom.

It looks real to me. The early abms are sometimes extremely crude. I also thought it is from outside the usa.

Hello Owen and others. I think this bottle is an early ABM product, made with the finish in the top of the mold. If your selling it, let me know; because it would be a good brief case example for my bottle club visits, as a subject of bottle making marks and examples.

I dont think I would call it a fake or reproduction since it doesnt seem to mimmick any particular old bottles.
It doesnt look particularly old to me , it just seems to be made of junky glass.
Maybe mexico, togo, peru , or some other place which might have low glass standards?
My non expert opinion...

For some reason I'm thinking Russian or eastern European, not sure why though.
