Hey Rick & Dave,

Thanks for the video. Looks like a swell layer. How deep are you? When Dave can't throw the dirt outta the hole, it makes this viewer wonder. Are you guys digging this chasm twice?

Gross did a mass Patent Filing in 1888:

"Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Extract of Oats and Barlev"
Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. " Barley Oats" (For Extract of Oats and Barley)
Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. " Oats and Barley" (For Extract of Oats and Barley)
Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Oats Barley" (For Extract of Oats and Barley)
Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Barley and Oats" (For Extract of Oats and Barley)
Gross & Co., E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Avena" (for Extract of Oats and Barley)
Gross Company, E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Oats and Barley Malt"
Gross, E.R., Philadelphia, Pa. "Cereal Extract of Oats and Barley"

That's all I could chase up. I've got no idea on the scarcity of these, but I've not seen one before.

I may be wrong on the the purpose of the medicine. I read a couple things that indicated there were some drunkenness cures made from extracts of oats and barley. If thats what it is it would make it much more interesting. Need to do some more research.
The google books function seems to currently be not working well.

Whats it worth??? what do you care, you never sell anything.

Dave dug a bottle that looked identical as the Oats and Barely one it was a "Keystone malt Whiskey" it looks almost the same.If that helps any.

The oats bottle also says " Cerale Avena and Hordum" the one we just dug.

The first thing I thought of seeing it was the neck ring and lip on the early Duffys bottles.
So a malt whiskey tonic wouldnt surprise me.

The Keystone malts I have see are fairly common and dont look that close to your bottle other than the lip and neck ring.
The Keytone , like Duffys was a medicinal product as I understand them.

Oats are Avena sativa and barely is Hordeum vulgare so I guess they were trying to sound scientific.
