My son's co-worker gave him this bottle when she heard that I was into antique bottles. She found it in her yard while digging to plant a tree. The house she lives in is from the 1920s. It's small 3" tall and 1 1/2" wide near the bottom tappering to a narrow threaded mouth. The surface of the bottle has narrow horizontal ridges with a smooth circular area near the neck, presumably for a label.

Any ideas what it could be?

Welcome! My first inclination is pepper sauce....or some other food bottle. Never seen one exactly like that, but traditional pepper sauce bottles are similar. Unless someone collects late food bottles, I dont know if it holds much value. Maybe someone with more time in that sect of bottles can tell you more.

Clear evidence shows that your bottle held Halo shampoo. Note the profile and the round smooth area for the label.

Wow! Thank you everyone for your responses! The shampoo bottle looks the most like my picture but I'm wondering, my little bottle has a flattened cross-section. The shampoo bottle looks conical. The picture below illustrates the cross-section shape. There's also the number "8" embossed on the bottom.

To me it does not appear conical. If you look at the shadow on the second pic it appears slimmer than if it was conical. I think he hit the nail on the head IMO
