Well,....another cool connection through the ABN forum resulted in a winter outing today for Penn Digger and I....recently I was contacted through here by a helpful forum member, (Thanks to Gunth for putting us in touch!) by way of a forwarded e mail...A visitor of our forum, but not a forum member (Bob) had recognized me from some forum posts here, and remembered a transaction between him and I at the Pittsburgh bottle show a couple of years ago! (and I thought I was cursed with a good memory)[:D] and was attempting to reach Me, Penn Digger and Mr. Fred about some local bottles he had found while doing some Forestry work in our area. Well, Bob reached us,....and we all arranged to get together when he came back here to finish his work...That was this morning, and since Bob had alot to do yet, he graciously agreed to meet us and lead us to the spot where a couple of weeks ago he had found some really nice early local aqua blobtops. I have to say that Bob is a really great guy and real down to earth, good hearted and really knows his bottles. He had advised us ahead of time that It seemed like a small, random dump spot, and he had found the two nice blobs with a stick...So who are we to turn down a possible lead? After a drive deep into the forest, we parked and hiked about another 20 minutes into a steep valley...Bob had to go on with his work, and left Tom and me to search this remote spot. In fact, after seeing the place, I just gotta say, Bob has a real good eye, and I'm not how he spotted the blobs he found under these hemlock trees. We dug for quite some time, but only turned up some partials. Oh well, We'll probably revisit this spot next spring and explore further.
Here's some pictures from today.

Bob and his sidekick "Tonka" the beagle.

We forgot our safety orange so did some impromptu last minute anti-gunshot precautions[:)] with some borrowed orange ribbon....There were quite a few hunters in the area along the drive in...

Here's the small dump spot under the trees...It was probably some early beers left by some oil feild workers....Hard to be sure how they got there.

We dug quite an area out,...but were only able to find this partial local blob...a shame, because these were fairly early and crude for oil field era trash....

Even though the bottles were elusive,...we still had a fun hike and outing,....and got to meet Bob,....a fellow bottle enthusiast and nice guy...maybe this will prompt Bob to shed his "Lurker" status..[;)]... The only down side, was that Mr. Fred was still under the weather and couldn't join us on this outing....[:(]
