As I was semi-digging through my usual dump, I stumbled upon the first marble I have found that I would consider old. As I examined it, it crumbled to glassy dust in my hands.
I love the picture on this one, but I don't know anything about it. Picked up from redneckest antique shop ever. Whose picture is this? I have a feeling it is an ex-President, but I can't tell. Can I get a brand and possibly as value on this one?
Thanks,
Isaac
I've been kicking about this place that got dozed before I got there. :-( Its city property so chances of getting permission to dig are pretty slim, but I have found a few things on top that I enjoy, even if they are broken.
I dunno the value or rarity on anything, so I apologise if I just...
Picked up an old spoon today in a city-owned, dozed dump (it breaks my heart every time I go there) and its obviously silver. Whats the best way to clean it? I have it soaking in vinegar right now.
The topic says it all, what is the newest privy you've willingly excavated? I've located one thats from the 30's (I think) and I'm pretty iffy about breaking ground.
I have located this, pre-1924 thing. I struck out looking for a privy (misread the map, too obvious now) but I did find 5 concrete slabs exactly where whatever it is, was. Soft dirt underneath, nothin crunchy tho. Is it worth excavatng?
Found these today at the Bayard Antique Village in Jax. Paid $20 for the lot and have no idea if I got ripped or if I did the ripping. Any information on these would be appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Isaac
Any ideas on this logo? The dump appeared to be from the 60s but the bottle denies that idea.
Chess is a drinking game now? Check out this wierd bottle!
Any idea what it was for?
I'll edit this up a little better later.
Peace
Isaac
I visited my uncles law office today and was surprised. He has an old ink bottle on his desk with a low seam and a nicely off-center neck. Its probably common, I didn't check, but thats not the point. I pick it up ever so gently and say, "THATS what I'm digging for." He asked if I wanted it and...
I'm making another trip to Georgia ao I can start a dig tomomorrow. This is what I consider my initiation dig; I've found bottles before but it didn't take much effort. I've got the place mapped out in my head, but I have no idea where to begin. There is a still-standing outhouse that I can...
I just put my first haul through the dishwasher to see if I could save some cleaning time. Probably a naive move, I'll admit, but something interesting did come up. Among my wash was an old whiskey bottle. It was clear when I began, but it clouded up a bit after the wash. From most angles it...
Hi. My name is Isaac, I'm 22 years old and I'd like to get into bottle digging. I haven't done any yet, but I am a fast learner and I can bring my own supplies. I'm in the Jacksonville area but willing to travel as far as Orlando or possibly Tallahassee if the prospects are good enough. I'll be...
When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist. I knew every dinosaur in every book I read by its scientific name and I took great pride in being able to pronounce them correctly. Flash forward to a few years later. All that information lay dormant until earlier this week. I was hunting and...
I just returned to my Florida home from a week-long deer hunting trip. While I didn't bag any deer, I did manage to discover that I was interested in antique bottles. I pulled some sodas out from under the house along with a real haul of "wine" bottles and an Old Crow. The really interesting...
