    round bottom bottle

In Australia, the bottles are more commonly known as "Round Enders" and often referred to (incorrectly) Maugham's Patent. In most cases, they would have contained soda water. Most of ours are from South Australia, where at least 40 manufacturers used them Tandy

    3 Torpedos

In Australia, these bottles range from common to very, very rare. Common names include "round - ender" and "Maugham". They are often described as Maugham patents, but this is incorrect - they are an unknown patent. All round enders have the blob top closure in Australia. They are all from the...

    Stumped on this one

[8D] I don't really know anything about the history of this bottle, but my guess is that it is a beer. For more ingformation, I suggest that you contact the member known as Grimdigger, or Shirky62, or deepee42. They are British members, and should be able to help. Tandy

    codd bottle.

In answer to bottlenutboy's comment in regard to Australian Codds or "Marble Bottles", each state of Australia produced its own brands of bottles in up to ten different Codd patent types. At a very rough guess, I would have to say that there are quite possibly over 10,000 different varietis...

    100% Clueless on this :D

Hi Chelle_58, I agree with what jamus said in regard to the bottles, they are in all probability medicine type bottles. Does the seam go all the way to the top or not? Tandy.

age of "Codd Stopper" pop bottle?

G'day Murray, that's a nice Codd bottle you have there! Sometimes known as "marble" or "Allie" bottles, they date from around the mid 1870's to the late 1880's or even into the 1900's. Yours is actually correctly known as an Empress patent, 1880 - 1883. You mentioned the following...

    How old is this bottle

Hi JSN, we get similar ones to the one in your photo over here in Australia, but usually of a lesser volume. They contained spirits or wines, and can be found in most Australian states. Cheers, Tandy

Pewter ware - mugs and a teapot

Hi Ron, one of them I bought at an Antique Dealer's many years ago, the others either were my late Mother's or Father's, and were inherited. I have always admired them. Tandy

Pewter ware - mugs and a teapot

Having just arranged, in part the large bookshelf that you can see part of, I decided that other forum members would be interested in my collection of pewter mugs, a teapot and EPNS trophy mugs. The middle one of the larger mugs on the left hand side reads "Harry Vivian, SM. It is Victorian...

Bottles and collectors from Australia and New Zealand

Many of you will know me as a fervent digger of an old quarry area at a place called Brownhill Creek. Its close, and it has some goodies to surrender, but this is not the subject of this post, it only serves to remind you of who I am - Tandy! I know that I have spoken about, discussed or...

    My Webpage

Jim, There are some really nice poisons on your website, and I think that more of us Aussies would be interested in seeing them, as they are of a design that we do not see. See http://aabc.9.forumer.com/index.php?act=idx which is our Australian Antique Bottle Forum. Once again, a...

Rare Coloured Codds still used in India and Japan Today

BigJock, you can add China to your list I think. It is still possible to get these codds at our local "China town" here in Adelaide, South Australia. I would think that you could probably get them in the U. S. of A. also. Cheers from Oz, Tandy

AHH! Check out all these bottles my grandfather left behind(edit-pictures resized+added 40 pictures)

RE: AHH! Check out all these bottles my grandfather left behind(edit-pictures resized) VS, Those Scotch Whiskys could be really valuable. There must be some reputable wine auctioneers close by, so I would discuss it with them. Cheers from Oz, Tandy

    Not sure what this is?

I would agree with both whiskeymamn and brokenshovel on the possibility of it being an olive oil, but I would also add it may well have been a castor oil. As to its age, similar looking bottlkes were used for castor oil over here (Australia) in the 1920's & 1930's. Tandy

    Lightning Hair Restorer

Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has any information about Lightning Hair Restorer, made by Mrs. I Comstock of Northport, Michigan. I think it was used around 1900 - 1910. It was also made (I assume under licence) in South Australia by Mr. O. Jarman of Naracoorte. Tandy
