I went to check out a construction site after work and found a privy which had the top 4 feet graded off of it. The bottom was exposed with shards scattered everywhere - all of the glass was pontiled....damn. Well the bottom of the privy was soft compared to the surounding dirt and it looks like...
Here's a strange question - has anyone ever tried to plant the seeds you commonly find in an old privy? It is possible for seeds to survive very long periods of dormancy. It would make for interesting conversation when eating a slice of pie made from such berries.
Here's two bottles that I have had kicking around for at least 20 years. The first one is a "FRANK MILLER'S CROWN DRESSING NEW YORK U.S.A". This is a common bottle, but I bet most collectors haven't seen one with the label still attached. The front panel is in English - the sides in French &...
Here's two miniature jugs that were made in Akron, Ohio in 1884. One says Merry Christmas and the other says Blaine Logan - for the 1884 election. I have another one as well that says Cleveland Hendricks - also from the 1884 election.
I found a bunch of ground top jars awhile back. This one is about 9" tall and came with the glass lid insert and zinc holding ring. Has a nice touch of olive green / amber around the threads.
The lid insert.....
Another cool insert that goes with one of the other ground tops.....
Over the last few years, I have been lucky to excavate these little stoneware miniature toys. Smallest is 1/2" up to 2". They all came from the same factory site in Akron, Ohio. Mini jugs, smoking pipes, chamber pot, mug, etc.

Nice amber glass. Is it a good one? It does have a small chip on the bottom side.
I went to an old farm today that was recently torn down to build a new subdivision. I tentatively have permission to dig the privy there but have to meet up with the developer. Yesterday I decided to scratch around the old bank barn foundation and ran across this great bottle from Lockport NY...
Well this little gem doesn't have a pontil - that's because the art of glass blowing wasn't even invented yet.
This is a Hellenistic glass core-formed alabastron - it is about 2400 years old - give or take a few centuries.
