Spring water jug from Pewaukee Wisconsin

I bought this recently. Anyone know how they could forge these metal bands on a jug? It has a crack. The bands are hand forged. I thought for sure this would be something I need to get off and then have the jug properly restored. It is very rare and very valuable even cracked. Once I saw it I think the bands are actually a period enhancement. I have two friends who are really after it. I would love to know anything anyone can tell about this repair... Like have you ever seen anything like this?

This is a close up of one of the forged band connections. They conform to the jug like they are painted on. There is a lot of curve at the base too... It had to be red hot metal but why and how did they not destroy the jug?

Interesting, how thick is the actual metal?

It looks hammered down to a strong sixteenth of an inch. Like flattened rod stock. It is pretty darn thick and way thicker than you could make take that shape cold.
