......that is the question. There is still alot of snow here in the northeast as you can see. On a previous post a few months ago came the question of digging a still standing outhouse and if I remember correctly it was mostly a negative response, but I was wondering the same thing at this site. The old homestead has imploded on itself decades ago but the outhouse still remains, it could easily be pushed over however and the debris cleared exposing just the hole , what do you think?
Here is a picture of the old imploded house;

Id go for it. Just be careful of rattle snakes they love that kind of cover. Id say you would find alot of stuff there.

Let me rephrase this. I would dig the location but Im iffy on digging under the outhouse. Look for the other privies on that location and dig them. I personally think that privy in picture that you would only find stuff from this century in it or fresh crap.

If some one said to me, hey I have a outhouse you can dig,and its still standing. I would say no thanks,but can I probe around it? and around your yard?
Because in my experience the ones that are still standing are not the old ones,as a matter of fact,there could be some fresh crapola down there waiting for for ya.[:'(]
I am not saying its impossible, but I have only heard of one instance of a old out house that was still standing producing old bottles.Rick

It looks like a farmstead so maybe there's a good dump nearby. I've always been a bit hestitant to dig farm privies due to the fact that there was plenty of nearby dumping space. There's always exceptions but I'd go for the cellar. There may still be some good stuff down there under that house.

ok there's a house w/ a cellar the house is falling in & you want me to go into the cellar? where it is falling in? I have tried to work up the nerve to go into one from the 1830's but every time I get there & look at it, I chicken out. I guess if someone was w/ me I might but I'm always alone, & those oak beams look mighty heavy. If you are brave enough to do it, let me know what you find. Then come help me w/ this one.

Looks to me like the first floor is still intact. Probably because the joists are logs that have been flattened on one or two sides. I would test it out a bit by poking around. Possibly you could clear out a spot and get a look down into the cellar. Where abouts are you? Maybe I could take a ride out there and give you a hand?
