That shard is awesome...I cry when I think of all the shards I chucked when I was a kid. I've recently been going back to dumps (if I can still find) after 35 yrs) and looking for them
What a great thread....I don't feel so bad after looking at all the pics (hstorical flasks, amazing colors, etc)..I have two stories:
When I was a kid (in the 70's) another kid whose Dad did construction told me he had uncovered some glass on a job. I went there, saw the freshly raised...
Ok so CatKicker has a username that violates the PC sensibilities of some. But his job is harnessing the power of wind, which is totally PC. So I figger we're all good. (This observation reveals my inner Libra striving for balance!)
Umm, can we get back to old bottles please?
Hi..I have gotten a lot from this site since I stumbled onto it a year or so ago. Would like to support it. I don't have a PayPal acct? Is opening one necessary for making a contribution? I am always leery about putting certain info out there into the ether.
Thanks!
Hi..Dug an early 1900's farm dump last weekend and found an Old Daugherty's Rye Whiskey, clear, pint size, screw top (rusty cap). I tossed it away, but there is some pretty impressive embossing on both sides..woman with long hair, stars..pretty fancy. Wondering if I should go back and get it...
Mike--When I mentioned that I know the family whose name is on your stone beer, I realize I didn't mention that I live in MA (Metrowest). Again, PM me if you want me to poke around for ya.
Mike- Sorry if this is a duplicate post. I live in MA (Boston burbs) and there is a family by that name that has been in the same town for generations. If you want, you can PM me and I can tell you more. I might also be able to ask the family if they had a relative with that initial in the...
I do now. Never kept shards as a kid (30-some yrs ago), but I wish I did. They're interesting and remind me of what else is out there (or machochistically, of what I almost found). I also didn't know you could glue pieces together--I once found a beatiful turn mold wine that had rolled...
Question for you fellow farm dump scratchers--I've dug a bunch but have never found good, old glass under a TOC dump. I've found many TOC dumps and many old dumps, but never together. many times, I've found an old one quite close to a TOC. Not sure why that would be--it would be easiest just...
Mike--What a great dig..I am at work at someone walking by by my desk would have heard me say "ohhhh!" when I saw the whittling oon that amber beauty. As for your stone beer, there is a family in my town that has that name and the family has been in this same town for many generations. I know...
Back in the 70s, this kid (his Dad worked on the highway dept of our town) told me his Dad was on a job site near a new road and mentioned some old bottles. I went up there, saw the freshly bulldozed raised path in the woods and saw glass shards. I then walk down alongside the path. I found...
Here's a heartbreaker of a different kind: In the 70's, I dug a beautiful aqua, super whittled Elliman's Royal Embrocation for Horses, Manufactury Slough England. I sold it and a few others to my Dad who was looking for some things to spruce up his office. I visited him some time later and I...
Good to have you...I recently joined but have to get moving posting some pics. Those are some sweet sodas. I don't see many of those around where I live (MA), even broken.
In a mid-winter funk last eve, gazing at one of my hard dug treasures, I noticed something odd. Many of my embossed bottles are meant to be read with the bottle lying on its side instead of upright. If I hold the bottle with neck in left hand and base in the right every bottle I have reads...
