When everything underwater is covered by the same algae, muscle shells or barnacle growth, sometimes it is difficult to tell what you're looking at.[:-] I must have passed over this bottle before, but I caught a glimpse of a flared lip and then dug it out.[] The bottle was 80% buried, but I took my time and dug it out in one piece...[8|]

Turned out to be a nice Stoddard flared lip, open pontiled utility bottle...[:D]

And I haven't cleaned it yet. I was hoping to find another so I could have both the Before" and "After" bottles for my display, but I haven't found a second one (yet).[;)]

I know that Coldwater Diver (Kevin) wanted the bottle as is, but he has found such nice stuff lately, I don't know if he would want to "dirty" his display with such an ugly, barnacle encrusted piece of Stoddard glass...[&:]

I guess I'll clean this and put it on my shelf...[:)]

Pretty cool! I am diving in fresh water and outside of zebra mussels and maybe some algae, they never get that encrusted. Nice find.

Hey Paul...
I hope the bottle comes out like yours too! Mine seems to be a bit more amber... maybe olive-amber, but as long as there are no cracks... chips[:D]

Hi Blobbob...
Yea, I prefer fresh water and how the bottles come out. I find a lot more in the salt water just because I do a lot of work in salt water. When I take my lunch hour, I throw on a tank and check out the area. Most of the fresh water dives are pretty dark. Once you start digging in the mud, everything turns black.[:'(] I just lay there and keep diggin and feel around for bottles. Gotta love it.

Hey Doug...
I don't know... when I put a bottle in the display case, I like to see the color, the whittle, the workmanship...[:-]My case is in front of a glass door that lets the sunshine in. This lets me see the true colors of the bottles. I'll wait to clean this one... I'll set the bottle in the case and see how it looks as compared to the others. I won't clean it right now anyway because of how cold it is outside. My acid "soup" is out there where I do my cleaning so I wouldn't want the bottle to crack from the temperature differential.[]

Thanks for your input... thank you all.
