Definately a neat one there.
Its undocumented as far as I can tell.
I hope the other shards are being searched for[;)]
Would be interesting to know what the rest of the text is.
I would agree the embossing symetry would probably make it a short word on the end there (assuming we are seeing the whole top line).
BALSAM is probably too long. BALM doesnt make sense. It could be BARK or BASIL. Hard to say, nothing common comes to mind.

Nice saves! It's true oil of balsam sounds good, but the "russian" is not alligned. Besides vodka and caviar, nothing pops to my mind lol; the shards might still be there, because why throw away half of a bottle?

Its the curse of the privy dippers. The other shards were likely removed during cleaning. I have part of a large 8 sided puce pontiled Baltimore medicine. I have the base and part of the Baltimore Pannel but nothing else to go on. So sad!

BALM doesnt make sense.

I know it doesn't roll off the tongue, but Oil of Balm is an actual substance. Also, Oil of Bay is a possibility.

The B word may be longer than we think. Look at a Howard's Vegetable for instance.

This bottle is still driving me crazy.

The base does not look "typical" for Stoddard, however, the color is right. But the color is a match for many 1840-50s glasshouses. The font style is similar to a Pike & Osgood, although the "o" and a couple other letters are different.

What a mystery! Anyone else have any clues?

Mike

Here's what I was talking about the lines of embossing not necessarily being balanced in length.
